I just moved back to Kuwait in January 2022.
Recently moved from L.A, California. God! It is very strange to read this while typing. But yes! I did, and please don’t ask me why now and why at all. The answer is that my family lives here so. I am here now. I am using Medtronic Insulin pump.
Not knowing what to do, where to go, and how insurance works. I just randomly walked into Dasman Diabetes Research center to get the information on how on earth do I navigate my way to “assemble my diabetic team” in Kuwait. So, I learned that to start this process, if you are type one. The starting point is your local Mostawsaf (government area clinic) there, the diabetes clinic will refer you to a Dr. in the hospital that your governate falls under. I.e, if you live in Hawally, you will be seeing a Dr. in Mubarak hospital.
Then, the next step is to make an appointment. I’d rather you go there in person. Ask where the Dr. is, and then make an appointment. No one will answer you phone calls.
Then you go and meet with the Dr. I was surprised that they follow the same protocol I discovered in the US. There is a diabetic educator, pump representative, and diabetic nurse and the Dr. They all sit on a round table with you. Everyone checks your A1C, your charts, and then advice you to change/edit or stay on your current pump setting.
This meeting takes place every3 months.
I am not sure what happens with regards to the eye dr and foot dr. In the US, I had to see those two drs every 3 months. I will update this blog after my next visit to the Diabetes dr.
Please note: The process with a private Dr. is completely different. This is for people who wish to see a Dr. through the government subsidized Ministry Of Health system.
